Losing Old Bunny

Sunday night the Brent and I were busy helping his mom with something that required two computers and one cell phone. The children were left to their own devices which either means two things, fighting or best friends. They were best friends Sunday night, they did something required a lot of running between their bed room and ours, laughter and crumbs in my bed. Bedtime came and J freaked out because we couldn't find old Bunny. We searched, he told us the last time he had it he was sitting in the rocking chair so we searched the LaZboy and every other chair and bed. We told him to pray. He did, then 10 minutes later he found a large old dirty coin from a foreign country. Instead of searching he told me all about his big penny. In a moment of inspiration I said ok, is that good enough to go to sleep with? He said yes, and with that bed was found. An answer to my prayer. The next morning he got ready for school fine and pleasant, until we walked out the door, the minute we got in the car he started yelling and crying about everything. It took me a half an hour to drop him off at preschool because he was mad and wouldn't stop crying. Luckily his preschool teacher is a paid professional so I eventually got out of there. Nan and I came home and started looking again for old bunny, I didn't know how long "the big penny" was going to work. But I gave up, because I was running out of places to look. When Nan came over fussing about Mr. Potato Head, she couldn't get his back to open. When I went to help her, I spied a miracle. Nan had saved the day. She was so happy that she was the one that found old Bunny. We took her picture. She proudly took it to her brother at the end of Preschool.

After preschool was over, I said maybe we shouldn't hid old bunny anymore. We always lose him when you put him in a hiding place. J responsed with, I'll just always remember his hiding place next time. (yeah, I'm not holding my breath on that.) J also said he missed old bunny so much he wanted to take him to the aquarium that afternoon. I said no, I don't want to lose him again. He said I'll never lose him again. We were home, a short 30 minutes later, J came crying he couldn't find old bunny. I said well start looking. Ten minutes later Nan was victorious again, she once again had found old bunny and proudly carried him to her brother. Now everytime she sees old bunny alone, she picks him up, shouts hooray and brings it to J. Unforuntately for her, he hasn't been lost again.

This all reminds me of the time, that I was pregnant with Nan, Brent was on a business trip and we lost Valentine's Bear.  I search the house house literally, I moved couches and everything, something I wasn't suppose to do be of my preterm contractions. I spent two hours looking for it.  I never did find it but eventually unloaded a whole toy box of stuff animals in his bed instead.  It worked if you count 10 pm a normal bedtime. It was almost more than my little hormonal pregnant body and mind could handle.  It was really quite terrible, we never did find that bear, not even when we moved, I think we must of left it at church at some point. Thank goodness old bunny wasn't gone forever, which is why old bunny is rarely allowed out of the house, and when he is allowed out he isn't allowed out of the car.

Bing Bong and Old Bunny

Yesterday my daughter was reading a Disney's Inside Out book. She said her second favorite character was Bing Bong. At first I was confused at what emotion she was trying to pronounce, so I had her spell it.
B-I-N-G-B-O
Oh, Bing Bong
That's what I said
I know but I thought you were saying an emotion.
I then told them Bing Bong made me sad. They asked why?
Because I'm a mom and it means kids grow up.
Joshy doesn't care about Old Bunny anymore. Which is good and fine because kids grow up but it also makes mamas sad. Just like the day you (Nattie) gave away all your baby dolls.
She replied, well that's because I like different dolls better. I said it's because you grew up. But at least we still have Pink Baby.
Oh, that's because Ikey likes her.
(Silently; no that's because this momma has to let her babies grow up but she can't part with Old Bunny or Pink Baby)
And then I'm driving my car home (we were in the car for this conversation) trying not to cry about poor forgotten Old Bunny.
Then I thought I'm not sure my two little boys have one toy they love above the rest.
Poor old bunny...
Just like Bing Bong, I think he's vanished from my 10 years old's memories.

PS I know Bing Bong was imaginary unlike my children's toys, but I have also read singletons are more likely to have imaginary friends.

Halloween Ten

Are you thinking about Halloween?  I am, my birthday is in a month and two days, which means I've also thought about Christmas, which means I should back track and go to Halloween.  November First, of last year, we made a ghost costume for Old Bunny, ever since J has wanted to be a Ghost this year. He has been talking about it for the last ten months.  A few weeks ago we went to DI for the whole reason of looking for a white sheet, but I forgot!  I never once looked at the linens, and instead spent $30 on other things.
But its time to be prepared, so I googled ghost costumes.  Sure ghosts are easy, just a sheet, and two holes.  But I wanted some extra ideas.  I like to have a visual, and I have never once paid attention to ghost costumes.  Not to mention I'm worried about my son's visibility.  I'm not convinced two holes in a sheet is very safe. But my son wants the most simplest ghost costume, two holes for eyes, and a round hole for his mouth. But his dad and I have different ideas, we don't think they are safe.

I was thinking something real awesome, but the more pages I showed him, the more he told told me, "that doesn't even look like a ghost" I do really like this one, and he'd actually have peripheral vision.
from MNN.com (mother's nature network)
I think we will end up something in the middle, with face paint to give him the black circle eyes and mouth. Something less scary but like these.  He doesn't like scary.
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
Overall I'm not too excited about facepaint, I don't like it, never use it, but I would rather face paint then no vision.

I have dreams of my children in the same theme costume.  I think it would be great if my son was a pirate and my daughter was a parrot.  Even thought my son likes pirate stuff, he doesn't wan to be pirate.  So since this will probably be the last year, my daughter can't tell me she wants to be a princess, I'm thinking a ghost costume for her too.  So I can have at least one year of cute matching kids.  Should I do the same ghost costume, like that one from the MNN.  Or, slightly different, I don't know if she'll let me put that type of costume on her.  I was thinking a white hoodie and a white tutu.  I know not so ghost like, but she is pretty picky and pretty girl, and I think she would really love something like this or this, minus the headbands.

He once mentioned being Spiderman a few weeks ago.  But I brought up the ghost again, and he said oh yeah. I hope he sticks with the ghost, one day I expect him not to want me to make him a costume, but I thought I would at least be allowed to until after kindergarten.  I'm not quite ready to buy a costume. Plus I'm not dressing Nan up as MJ, so he needs to stick with something I can make so they can be matching just one year. I did find a pink spidergirl costume but I would rather die than put my almost two year old in that.
Now what my daughter really likes to do is pretend she is a mommy, so for Halloween, maybe I should just put her hair in a pony, dress her in a downeast wonder tee, yoga pants, and put her baby doll in a sling. Would anyone guess what she is?

One last thing, an actually ghost pattern
I might have posted this on the wrong blog?  I'm confused?!
I have seen invested three dollars in a white queen sized sheet, it will give us lots of wiggle room.

Chinese New Year

I'm pretty sure none of my posts are timely anymore. (RSS feed users, a few days ago I finally started to post old posts I haven't ever hit the orange button for.)  A few weeks ago my child celebrated Chinese New Year in preschool.  He was trilled that it was year of the rabbit, because he loves his stuff animal Peter Rabbit, that is named Old Bunny.  With the massive pile of preschool junk that came home in his backpack I learned a interesting little piece of trivia about my family.  My husband and my son's Chinese Zodiac is the Dog, my daughter and I are both rats.  Personally I find the rat to pretty much be the lamest Chinese Zodiac to have, not that I actually take stock in any zodiac, it makes me feel lame when I go to Chinese restaurants to be reminded that I'm a rat.  But back to the interesting bit of trivia that I learned during all this Chinese New Year is my husband and son are 24 years apart, and my daughter and I are 24 years apart.  Funny huh?

Happy Early Easter

My son asked me to buy him bunny ears. We found them at Target. They aren't the most masculine thing ever, but who cares. Old bunny is in the front.
If you notice the couch in the back is a different shade than normal. We got a used sectional from a friend. Why anyone would get a used sectional to move across two states is beyond me. But yet it sort of felt like a tithing blessing. We have too many other things to buy, to buy a second couch, but yet our TV will be in the basement. Luckily there is a slip cover that goes on top of it. Yes, it does feel like a blessing, because a slip cover alone cost more than I want to spend on a couch right now. I know some people wouldn't move crappy used furniture 11 hours. (Lets be honest in a moving truck, 11 is a goal.) Is my crappy used furniture even worth anything? I don't know but I know I wouldn't be able to replace it all right away, so its worth it to move, because my husband isn't about to get rid of our books and bookcases.  Not to mention our TV, and computers, are worth moving. Plus we have a lot of food storage. So if we are moving all that, I want to bring the boxed up baby clothes, now our moving bill is already up, which means its cost effective to move my furniture. Lets not forget our beds which weren't used when we bought them.
This was suppose to be a Happy Early Easter Post, not a guilty conscious post.

Found

Over three years ago we mysteriously lost a beloved stuff animal.  Valentine's Bear.  It was a tragedy I was sure we would find we when we moved we didn't.  For years he asked what happened to his bear, I never did know.  But you'll never guess what happened, I was at goodwill in a different town today with a friend when I found valentine's bear.  I had to buy it, it was old bunny's best friend for years.
My son actually did finally forget about the bear probably a year and half ago, but he was interested in the whole story and the pictures from when he was a baby with his bear.  He loves the fact that he has a Valentine Birthday.

Dirty Baby at Great Grandma's

...with only one pig tail.

She is a crazy little toddler. She is so picky! In the store, we already fight over what to buy. The other day she found this clearanced pink easter bunny. I put it back and switched it for purple, she refuses to play with the purple, throws it every time I hand it to her in the car. She was at the store getting a dress with grammy, shook her head no to every shirt grammy suggested until the pink shirt was found. Then we went to dresses, once again shook her head no to every cute dress I found, until grammy found a pink one. She has been putting her crocs on herself one foot at a time for days. The other day she figured out how to put both on. Instead of being glad, she started screaming and yelling, I thought what in the world. She took one off, and went away. She came back with them on the right feet, she had originally put them on the wrong feet. What 16 month old knows when her shoes are on the right feet?!
